KALYRA WINS MAJOR AWARD

Kalyra has won the prestigious Office for Ageing Well Tackling Ageism Award at the 2023 South Australian Community Achievement Awards and was presented by Cassie Bouyer‐Sanderson, Acting Director, Office for Ageing Well, SA Health.

Kalyra won the Award from a strong field of community achievers.
The winners were announced on Friday 10th November 2023 during the Awards Gala Presentation Dinner which was held at the Stamford Grand Adelaide with Elspeth Hussey, 7NEWS Reporter & Weekend Early Edition Presenter, as the MC for the evening.

Kalyra is at the forefront of the battle against ageism, recognising the need to break down stereotypes and prejudices. Through the co‐location of a Montessori Middle School within Kalyra Woodcroft Aged Care, Kalyra has created a unique platform for intergenerational activities. Students and residents engage in shared experiences, fostering mutual understanding and empathy. Overcoming challenges, including opposition and COVID‐19, Kalyra remains dedicated to the cause. Their program is reshaping perceptions of older individuals and challenging ageist assumptions. It exemplifies how intergenerational connections can pave the way for a more inclusive and age‐friendly society, ensuring that ageism becomes a thing of the past.

Award

Winners each received a prize package worth more than $1,500 including a $500 Woolworths Gift Card, a complimentary membership to The Career College valued at $594, and a $500 Bartercard Travel Voucher, plus a trophy. Lorraine Flanegan was also announced as the People’s Choice Award Winner and received a $250 worth of Ryde Clothing products, plus there is a $100 Ryde Clothing voucher for a lucky voter. The Awards night culminated a tremendously successful year with nearly 300 nominations.
